Traffic safety and violation reports emerge from Marília and Taubaté
Recent data from the state of São Paulo highlights significant traffic safety and enforcement issues in the cities of Marília and Taubaté.
In Marília, statistics from the Detran-SP Infosiga platform show that 167 accidents occurred on the city's ten most frequent thoroughfares between August 2025 and July 2026. Avenida República recorded the highest number of incidents with 29, followed by Avenida Sampaio Vidal with 26. Motorcycles were involved in 48.5% of these accidents, while automobiles accounted for 44.9%. The total financial impact of traffic accidents in Marília during this period was estimated at approximately R$ 147.39 million. Although 23 deaths were recorded over the 12-month period, fatalities showed a decline in the first half of 2026.
In Taubaté, the Secretariat of Urban Mobility reported over 93,500 traffic violations between January and July of this year. The most frequent offense was speeding by up to 20% above the limit, representing 45.5% of all citations. While the total value of fines issued reached R$ 17.5 million, only 59% of that amount was collected, indicating a 41% non-payment rate among drivers.
