Traffic safety concerns rise following multiple accidents at major intersections
Increased concern regarding road safety has emerged following a series of traffic incidents at critical intersections in Mar del Plata, Argentina, and Trujillo, Peru.
In Mar del Plata, an intersection at Juan B. Justo and Lamadrid has seen three accidents in less than a week, including one fatality. A motorcyclist was injured on Wednesday after colliding with a vehicle that stopped at a traffic light. Local residents report that the intersection has become chaotic, citing poorly synchronized traffic lights and short signal durations that make crossing difficult, particularly for elderly pedestrians visiting the nearby Hospital Houssay.
In Trujillo, Peru, residents of the La Esperanza district are warning of dangers at the intersection of Tahuantinsuyo and José Gabriel Condorcanqui avenues, locally known as the ‘Cruce de la Muerte’. An inoperative traffic light at this high-traffic junction has heightened the risk of accidents. Regional transport data indicates that La Libertad recorded over 1,433 traffic accidents through September 2026, prompting calls for urgent infrastructure repairs and improved road safety measures.
