Traffic safety reports highlight rule violations in roundabouts and on highways

Traffic safety studies highlight common rule violations in Austria and Germany regarding roundabouts and highway lane usage.

In Austria, a study by the Kuratorium für Verkehrssicherheit (KFV) involving approximately 18,500 observations revealed that one in three drivers fails to use turn signals correctly or at all when exiting a roundabout. Specifically, about half of all drivers do not signal when leaving a roundabout. Distractions such as eating, smoking, or using mobile phones without hands-free systems significantly increase the likelihood of failing to signal. Light vehicle operators, including cyclists and e-scooter users, demonstrate the lowest levels of signaling discipline.
