Trafford's Wharfside Regeneration Plan Linked to New Manchester United Stadium

Trafford Council unveiled a masterplan to transform the area around Old Trafford into a mixed‑use district anchored by the new 100,000‑seat Manchester United stadium. The scheme proposes around 15,000 new homes, the creation of 48,000 jobs, additional green space, and the possibility of a new train station to improve connectivity. Council leader Tom Ross said the project aims to make Trafford a "world‑class place to live, work and visit" and emphasized the need to provide healthcare, education and affordable housing for both new and existing residents.

The plan also includes discussions with local NHS partners on future health services, proposals for new primary and secondary schools, and measures to reduce car traffic on match days by enhancing public transport options, including the potential reopening of the former Manchester United station.
