Trafikverket inspects Inlandsbanan for major railway renovations

Trafikverket has conducted an inspection trip along the Inlandsbanan railway to assess the extensive renovation and maintenance needs of the nearly 100-year-old line connecting Mora and Gällivare.

Inlandsbanan CEO Otto Nilsson stated that upgrading the entire stretch could require between 6 billion and 12 billion SEK. The primary requirements include replacing sleepers and rails, extending passing loops, renovating approximately 200 bridges, and clearing vegetation near the tracks.

While the previous Swedish government allocated 30 billion SEK for national infrastructure investments, the exact amount designated for the Inlandsbanan remains to be determined based on Trafikverket’s assessment of necessary repairs. There has been increased interest in the railway's upkeep from the Swedish Armed Forces and total defense sectors.
