Trafikverket to expand freight rail capacity in Bergslagen

Trafikverket is constructing a second track on the Godsstråket freight line through Bergslagen to increase capacity. The expansion will cover five kilometers between Avesta Krylbo and Dalslund, scheduled for completion in two years.

In addition to the new track, the Avesta Krylbo yard will receive 17 new switches. Most operational sites between Avesta Krylbo and Storvik will be extended and equipped to allow for simultaneous arrivals. The project aims to alleviate significant bottlenecks, particularly the ten-kilometer stretch between Avesta Krylbo and Hökmora, which currently features steep inclines and speed limits of 40 km/h.

The Bergslagen freight line is a vital corridor for goods moving between northern and southern Sweden, currently handling approximately 35 freight trains per weekday on the Storvik-Hallsberg section. Ockelbo Kabelteknik and Infrakraft are responsible for the reconstruction and new construction of the overhead line systems and signaling.
