Tragedies involving missing persons reported in Mexico and Dominican Republic

Two separate tragedies involving missing persons have highlighted vulnerabilities in different regions. In Mexico, the deaths of Ángela Valeria Rodríguez Castillo, 27, Daniela Guadalupe Valdés Ordóñez, 27, and Gabriela Hernández Ibarra, 31, have left their families mourning after a final journey turned fatal.

In the Dominican Republic, the case of 78-year-old George De Aza Amparo has raised concerns regarding public health and human rights. Amparo, who lived with Alzheimer's, went missing on August 3, 2026. His family reported that authorities initially advised them to wait 48 hours before filing a report, despite Law 25-26 requiring alert systems to activate within 24 hours of a report and assessment. After seven days, Amparo was found dead. The incident underscores the high risk of disorientation and danger faced by individuals with cognitive impairment when they become lost.
