Two separate tragic incidents involving young Italian students have drawn significant local mourning.

In Reggio Calabria, 23-year-old Anthea Ranieri died following a scooter accident on the Calopinace ramps. The tragedy occurred during a period of religious festivities; in response to the loss, Mayor Cannizzaro cancelled scheduled concerts to honor the deceased. Ranieri was an economics graduate student at Università Mediterranea, and the academic community has expressed deep condolences.

In a separate incident, 23-year-old Elena Cucciol, a student from Conegliano, was found deceased in her residence in Ireland. Cucciol was studying scientific disciplines at the University of Limerick. She was recognized for her academic excellence in languages and STEM subjects, as well as her various work experiences in Dublin and on campus.
