TRAI reports slight drop in Jammu‑Kashmir telecom complaints and conducts network quality tests
The Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) said that complaints about call drops, voice quality and slow mobile internet in Jammu and Kashmir fell modestly between May and June 2026. In May, Airtel received 11 complaints, decreasing to six in June, while Reliance Jio’s complaints rose from six to nine. BSNL logged three complaints in June after none in May, and no complaints were recorded for MTNL or Vodafone Idea. The Ministry of Communications noted that TRAI imposed financial penalties totalling Rs 1.90 crore on operators for not meeting quality benchmarks, with BSNL hit the hardest at Rs 57.5 lakh.
TRAI also carried out Independent Drive Tests across Srinagar, Gulmarg, Anantnag, Pahalgam and major highways in June 2026, measuring live voice and data performance on 2G, 3G, 4G and 5G networks. Results were shared with the service providers for corrective action. The government highlighted ongoing projects under the Digital Bharat Nidhi to expand mobile connectivity in rural, border and remote areas.
