Traiguén infrastructure: Road funding and landslide emergency
In the La Araucanía region, significant road infrastructure developments and emergencies are unfolding in the Malleco province. Governor René Saffirio Espinoza has announced a request to the Ministry of Public Works (MOP) to fund the first stage of a major repaving project for the Traiguén–Los Sauces route. This initial phase involves an investment of approximately $27 billion CLP to cover the first 7 kilometers starting from central Traiguén, part of a larger estimated $100 billion CLP global project.
Simultaneously, the route connecting Traiguén to Galvarino has been completely suspended due to a massive landslide at Cuesta Chufquén. The Municipality of Traiguén and the MOP are coordinating recovery efforts, though technical evaluations indicate that active hillside instability caused by heavy rains has delayed the start of clearing operations. Once conditions stabilize, crews aim to remove over 6,000 cubic meters of debris and evaluate the need for permanent containment structures.
