Trail running events drive economic and athletic growth in France and Quebec

The Trail du Saint-Jacques by UTMB, held across 23 communes including Puy-en-Velay and Saugues, generated 3.3 million euros for the local economy. The event saw 7,588 participants representing 55 nationalities, with 85% of runners coming from outside the Haute-Loire region. The economic impact included 14,856 overnight stays and a 14% increase in spending with local suppliers compared to the previous edition.

In Quebec, the Ultra-Trail des Pionniers is expanding its offerings in Saint-Donat. Scheduled for September 12 and 13, the event now includes ultra-distances such as a 70 km race featuring nearly 2,000 meters of elevation gain, a 35 km race, and a Backyard challenge. The Sunday schedule maintains more accessible options, including distances ranging from 1 km to 21 km, catering to a family-oriented audience.
