Trailer accidents cause road closures in Veracruz and Campeche‑Mérida, Mexico

A heavy trailer carrying powdered milk overturned on the Xalapa‑Coatepec boulevard in Veracruz, blocking all four lanes for more than eight hours. Only a motorcyclist was struck, but survived. The incident highlights recurring problems with large trucks in Mexican cities and has prompted legislators to consider stricter regulations on double‑trailer units and time‑of‑day restrictions.

On the Campeche‑Mérida federal highway near San Mateo, Dzitbalché, a trailer lost control—likely after the driver fell asleep—and tipped a gondola, scattering construction material onto the roadway. No injuries were reported, but the spill created a hazard that required police and National Guard personnel to cordon off the area and a crane to remove the wreckage. Both accidents disrupted traffic and underscored concerns about heavy‑vehicle safety on Mexican roads.
