Transport for NSW confirmed the disruptions were caused by an issue with a freight train at Warnervale, which may result in trains stopping on platforms or between stations for extended periods.

Two trains originating from the Newcastle Interchange were specifically affected, with services stuck at Morisset and Dora Creek. Repair crews were deployed to address the mechanical issues on the freight train. Transport authorities announced that replacement buses were being organized to assist travelers.
