Train kills woman in Peja, Kosovo, sparking railway safety calls
A 58‑year‑old woman was killed on Monday morning when she was struck by a Trainkos passenger train near Peja, Kosovo, at about 05:35. Police were alerted immediately, and Trainkos spokesperson Behxhet Haziri said it was the first fatal train incident in the country this year.
Experts highlighted that many railway crossings in Kosovo are unprotected or illegally blocked, creating hazardous conditions for pedestrians. They urged the Ministry of Infrastructure and the rail operator INFRAKOS to close illegal access points, install signals, barriers and proper signage, and to enforce regulations to prevent further accidents.
