Trainspotting live event held at Edinburgh International Film Festival

The Edinburgh International Film Festival hosted a ‘Trainspotting live’ event at the recently regenerated Leith Theatre to celebrate the film’s legacy and its 4K restoration. The event featured a screening of Danny Boyle’s 1996 film accompanied by live commentary from cast and crew members, including author Irvine Welsh and actor Ewan McGregor.

The atmosphere was described as high-energy, resembling a concert or club night more than a traditional film screening, complete with a DJ set and attendees wearing orange ‘Choose Life’ bucket hats. While the event served as a homecoming for the story set in Leith, some attendees noted technical clunkiness in the live commentary format, including jokes from McGregor regarding the interruptions to the film.

Park Circus is scheduled to conduct a theatrical release of the 4K restoration starting August 21.
