Trakia Motorway accident kills road worker in multi-car collision

A fatal multi-vehicle collision occurred on the Trakia Motorway near kilometer 27 in the direction of Sofia, resulting in the death of an Avtomagistrali employee. The worker was struck by a vehicle while performing duties to secure a section of the road following an initial accident.

The incident involved a chain collision between three passenger cars, one of which caught fire and was destroyed. Reports suggest the initial crash may have been caused by aquaplaning. While the worker died, two other individuals were transported to a hospital for medical attention.

Diana Rusinova of the European Center for Transport Policy noted that the area near Vakarel has seen a total of four accidents recently. She highlighted that the road infrastructure should be prepared for common atmospheric phenomena like rain and pointed to the worn asphalt surface in this section as a recurring issue.
