Tramandaí jury trial begins for murder of hairdresser Návia Regina Christan

A jury trial has commenced in Tramandaí, Rio Grande do Sul, for four individuals accused of orchestrating the murder of hairdresser Návia Regina Christan, also known as Maninha. The prosecution alleges the defendants planned and coordinated the homicide, which occurred on November 5, 2018, when an assailant entered Christan’s salon posing as a customer and shot her.

The case is linked to a prior attempted murder in October 2017, which left Christan with permanent vision loss in one eye. According to the Public Ministry of Rio Grande do Sul (MPRS), the crimes were motivated by family and financial disputes. The four defendants face charges of qualified homicide, including motives of futile reasoning, promise of reward, and the use of resources that hindered the victim's defense.

During the first day of the trial, presided over by Judge Gilberto Pinto Fontoura, eight witnesses and informants provided testimony. This included police officers detailing the investigation, family members discussing internal disputes, and colleagues of the victim who testified regarding potential threats Christan may have faced prior to her death.
