Tramandaí sea lion sighting reaches 731 records for the season

A sea lion was spotted near the Tramandaí platform on Thursday morning, marking the 731st sighting of the season along the coast of Rio Grande do Sul between Torres and Palmares do Sul.

The animal is being monitored by the Center for Coastal, Limnological, and Marine Studies (Ceclimar) of the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (UFRGS). Although there were initial concerns regarding the animal's health, experts noted a good body score, indicating healthy fat reserves and muscle mass. The sea lion's behavior of resting on the sand is considered natural and does not currently require intervention.

Of the 731 recorded sightings this season, 716 were South American sea lions and 15 were subantarctic sea lions. Data shows that 85% of the recorded animals, or 622 individuals, were young.
