Tranquilino Valenzuela honored for athletic career and impact in Neuquén
Tranquilino Valenzuela, a prominent figure in Neuquén sports, has been recognized as an ‘Illustrious Personality’ by the provincial legislature. He also received a distinction from Governor Rolando Figueroa during the Expo Deportes.
Valenzuela began his athletic career in the 1980s, transitioning from football to long-distance running. His career as a marathon runner is noted for its historical significance in Argentine athletics.
Throughout his career, Valenzuela highlighted the evolution of sports infrastructure in the region. He noted that early athletes had to train on asphalt tracks due to a lack of facilities. He credited the competitive results of himself and other local athletes as a driving force that convinced the government to invest in dedicated athletics tracks, leading to the development of the current synthetic track and modern equipment available to young athletes today.
