Trans Copacabana reports passenger ambush near Uyuni

The transport company Trans Copacabana S. A. has reported an ambush and forced transfer of passengers on the Potosí–Uyuni route. The incident occurred around 07:00 on September 13, 2026, near Río Salado, approximately two hours before the vehicle was scheduled to arrive in Uyuni.

According to the company, a mob intercepted the bus, which was carrying 35 passengers traveling from Cochabamba to Uyuni. The attackers reportedly used private vehicles to block the bus, pelted it with stones, and threatened the crew. The company alleges that the crew was stripped of their belongings and left without communication, while passengers were forced to disembark and were subsequently transferred against their will to a unit belonging to Trans Turística Omar.

Trans Copacabana has accused individuals linked to other transport companies and local union leaders of orchestrating the attack. The company has called for intervention from the Bolivian Police and the Public Ministry to take legal action and ensure passenger safety.
