Trans Guyana Airways aircraft veers off Mabaruma runway
A Trans Guyana Airways Cessna Caravan veered off the runway during a landing at Mabaruma airport in Guyana on September 17, 2026. The incident occurred around 8:15 a.m. when the pilot, Jessica Ramcharitar, reportedly spotted a black dog running toward the runway.
In an attempt to avoid a collision with the animal, the pilot applied aggressive braking, causing the aircraft to slide past the end of the runway and turn sideways. There were 12 people on board at the time of the excursion. While no serious injuries were reported, 11 passengers were taken to Mabaruma Hospital for medical evaluation, with two individuals admitted for observation due to high blood pressure.
The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority has dispatched an Accident and Investigation Team to Mabaruma to conduct a formal inquiry. This marks the second runway excursion involving a Trans Guyana Airways aircraft in 2026, following a similar incident in April involving a capybara at Eugene F. Correia International Airport.
