Trans Nzoia Governor disputes President Ruto over hospital delays

Trans Nzoia Governor George Natembeya has refuted allegations by President William Ruto that local leadership is obstructing the construction of a state-of-the-art hospital in the county.

President Ruto previously attributed delays in the project to the ‘Tawe’ movement and claimed that county leaders have a pattern of opposing government initiatives. In response, Governor Natembeya stated that development is a constitutional right for all Kenyans and that he has not rejected any projects.

Natembeya questioned the legality of the national government allocating funds for the Endebess Hospital project without a formal agreement with the county government. He emphasized that health is a devolved function under the constitution and that the county must be involved in such undertakings. Additionally, the Governor asserted his accountability to the electorate rather than the presidency, noting that he is an elected official and not a county or regional commissioner.
