Trans women in Morelia demand gender‑identity recognition and an end to violence

Members of the civil association Mujeres Trans Valladolid gathered in Morelia, Michoacán, to call for full respect of trans women’s gender identity and for an immediate halt to the violence they face. President Melisa criticised media outlets for using non‑inclusive language that fuels sensationalism and further victimisation. In a video message, activist Marlene warned that even after a trans woman is murdered, her gender identity is often denied by institutions, adding that “las mujeres trans asesinadas siguen sufriendo violencia incluso después de muertas”.

The group urged authorities to enforce existing gender‑identity laws, improve sensitivity training for officials, and ensure dignified treatment for victims and their families, aiming to eradicate discrimination and create a more inclusive society across Michoacán and Mexico.
