Transdev doubles overtime pay for Utrecht bus drivers amid summer staffing shortage

Public transport operator Transdev announced a temporary wage boost for bus drivers in Utrecht to maintain service during a challenging summer. Drivers who work extra weekday shifts will receive 170 % of their regular wage, while those who pick up additional Friday or Saturday work will be paid at 200 %. From 11 July to 29 August, all overtime will be compensated at double rate (200 %). The measure addresses a nationwide driver shortage that has led to reduced timetables and service disruptions since Transdev took over the Utrecht routes from Qbuzz last year. The provincial authority has already fined the company at least €1.5 million for failing to meet contractual service levels, with further quarterly penalties of €100 000 if problems persist. Transdev says the pay increase aims to attract staff willing to work extra hours and keep the bus network reliable for passengers.
