Transformers 40th anniversary features new animated short

Hasbro and Fathom Entertainment have announced the international 4K theatrical re-release of ‘The Transformers: The Movie’ to celebrate its 40th anniversary. The screenings are scheduled to take place from September 17 to 22.

As part of the celebration, a new 12-minute animated short titled ‘Optimus Prime: Awakening’ will be presented following select anniversary screenings. Written by Ryan Parrott, the short serves as a tribute to the franchise and the late Peter Cullen. The animation features Cullen’s final original voice performance as Optimus Prime, alongside Frank Welker, who returns to voice Megatron and Soundwave.

Welker described the project as a “real gift,” noting the long-standing creative partnership between himself and Cullen. The short is designed to build upon the storytelling and visuals of the original 1986 film while exploring the franchise’s future.
