Transformers: The Movie re-release exceeds $5 million worldwide

The 40th-anniversary theatrical re-release of the 1986 animated film ‘The Transformers: The Movie’ has exceeded expectations, surpassing $5 million in global box office revenue. The release, a collaboration between Hasbro and Fathom Entertainment, earned over $3.1 million during its opening weekend in the United States, ranking seventh in the Top 10.

Due to the strong reception, hundreds of cinemas worldwide have extended their screenings, with some scheduling showtimes through October 7th. The re-release includes the animated short ‘Optimus Prime: Awakening’, which features the final performance of voice actor Peter Cullen.

As of Tuesday, the film stands as Fathom Entertainment’s third highest-grossing title of the year, following ‘The Amazing Digital Circus’ and the re-release of ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring’.
