Transgaz to seek stake in US LNG developer Argent LNG

Romania’s national gas transmission operator Transgaz signed a non‑binding Memorandum of Understanding with US company Argent LNG, the developer of a liquefied natural gas export terminal in Louisiana. The agreement sets out a framework for Transgaz to become a shareholder in Argent LNG, giving the Romanian firm direct access to U.S. LNG supplies.

The investment aims to enable the transit of U.S. LNG through Romania to the Republic of Moldova, Ukraine and onward to Central and Eastern European markets, diversifying supply sources and reducing dependence on Russian gas. Transgaz highlighted that, together with the Vertical Gas Corridor, the partnership will strengthen energy security for Romania and the broader region.
