Transgender sibling of Olympic skater Alysa Liu leads California high school girls' track

Jaylin Liu, the sibling of Olympic figure‑skating gold‑medalist Alysa Liu, has been competing in girls’ track and field events at Albany High School in California after transitioning and identifying as female. Since the 2025 season, Liu has won every 200‑metre and 400‑metre race entered, ranking first on the team and topping the Tri‑County Athletic League in the quarter‑mile, with additional victories at league finals and championships. Beyond track, Liu has also taken part in girls’ varsity basketball and elite ultimate‑frisbee tournaments, earning praise for a dominant performance at the Ultimate High School National Invite.

Liu’s participation has drawn criticism from women’s‑sports advocacy groups, with the Independent Council on Women’s Sports calling the Liu family “a profound threat to the integrity of those sports.” The athlete has kept a low public profile, rarely referencing Alysa, who was present with their father at the Milan Winter Olympics when she won gold.
