Transgrid hosts UTS academic to support energy transition planning
Transgrid, Australia’s largest transmission operator, has commenced a six-month placement for University of Technology Sydney (UTS) Associate Professor Li Li. The placement, facilitated through the UTS Professional Experience Program, embeds Li within Transgrid’s Network Transition Planning and System Resilience teams.
Li’s research focuses on power systems, microgrids, and smart grid technologies, specifically regarding the reliable operation of inverter-based grids. The collaboration aims to address challenges arising from Australia’s energy transition, including the growth of distributed energy resources, transport electrification, and the emergence of high-demand loads such as data centres.
Transgrid officials noted that embedding academic expertise can help challenge established assumptions and explore emerging concepts. The placement is intended to bridge the gap between academic research and industrial implementation, contributing to work on renewable integration, system strength, and demand planning.
