Transit Books gains international recognition from California

Transit Books, a nonprofit publisher based in Oakland, California, is gaining international recognition for its focus on intelligent international fiction. The Bay Area-based company, run by Adam Z. Levy and Ashley Nelson Levy, recently saw one of its titles, “May We Feed the King” by British author Rebecca Perry, named to the Booker Prize longlist.

Founded about a decade ago, Transit Books was established to champion great works of literature that the founders believed were being overlooked by major New York-based publishers. The small staff and Oakland office manage a roster that includes Nobel Prizewinner Jon Fosse. The publishers transitioned the company into a nonprofit to better connect with the global literary community and provide access to a broader readership for international authors.
