Transito launches integrated freight service to mitigate Rhine shipping disruptions

Dutch chartering company Transito has launched ‘Total Freight’, a new service designed to mitigate cargo disruptions caused by low water levels on the Rhine and other logistical challenges. The service integrates sea freight, port handling, transshipment, and onward transport via inland vessels under a single contract, price, and invoice.

By managing both the seagoing and inland vessels, Transito aims to reduce the coordination burden on shippers. The company stated it will absorb waiting costs between vessels within an agreed range, addressing issues where delays in one leg of a journey—due to port congestion, low water, or documentation errors—typically result in additional costs for the cargo owner.

The service targets industrial buyers and mid-sized traders handling agribulk, building materials, fertilizers, minerals, and recycling cargo. It facilitates movements between overseas loading ports and destinations across the Netherlands, Belgium, Germany, France, and Switzerland, operating in both import and export directions.
