TransMilenio leads Bogotá urban renewal initiative

The Mayor's Office of Bogotá has issued District Decree 299 of 2026 to regulate the implementation of the ‘Ondas Metropolitanas’ initiative. Led by TransMilenio in its role as a Public Urban Operator, this urban renewal project aims to transform strategic sectors of the capital by integrating public transport infrastructure with new urban developments.

The strategy follows the Transit-Oriented Development model, promoting dense and diverse construction around mass mobility axes to ensure housing, commerce, and services are accessible near major stations. This approach seeks to encourage pedestrian and bicycle use, gradually reducing reliance on private vehicles.

The pilot phase, titled ‘Onda Metropolitana Fiotti,’ will take place in the Montevideo sector along Avenue Carrera 68. The project involves converting a former industrial site into a mixed-use node featuring high-quality public spaces to reactivate the local economy.
