TransPennine Express upgrades Nova 1 train seats with northern firms
TransPennine Express is refurbishing the interiors of its 19 Nova 1 trains, fitting new seat covers and cushions between July and the end of 2026. The design, inspired by the shard shapes in the operator’s logo, uses high‑contrast colours to aid visually‑impaired passengers and focuses on durability. Sheffield‑based Diamond Group supplies the seat covers and cushions, while Mirfield textile maker Camira handled colour selection and sampling. The seating was designed by Derby industrial designers David Gordon and Andy Sykes and delivered in partnership with Hitachi Rail. Paul Staples, Engineering, Safety and Sustainability Director at TPE, said the project improves passenger experience and supports regional supply chains. Diamond Group’s managing director Jenny Dempsey noted the programme creates jobs and demonstrates the value of local investment.
