Transperth records record annual patronage of 161 million boardings

Transperth recorded a record-breaking 161.2 million boardings across its bus, train, and ferry networks during the 2025-26 financial year. This represents an 8.4 per cent increase from the previous year and surpasses the previous record of 149.6 million set in 2012-13.

Buses remain the most utilized mode of transport with 86.5 million boardings. Train usage saw significant growth, reaching 73.7 million boardings, a 19 per cent increase, partly attributed to expanded coverage and the return of services following track works on the Armadale Line. Ferries accounted for 932,673 passengers.

According to Western Australia Transport and Major Infrastructure Minister Rita Saffioti, the growth is linked to the METRONET expansion and cost-of-living initiatives such as the Go Anywhere Fare and free student travel. The annual Passenger Satisfaction Monitor, now in its 37th year, reported high satisfaction levels, with 91 per cent of bus passengers expressing satisfaction with the service.
