Transperth to offer free travel for AFL Grand Final

The Western Australian government has announced that all Transperth public transport services will be free on Saturday, September 26, 2026. The initiative aims to accommodate large crowds expected for the AFL Grand Final, where the Fremantle Dockers are set to face the Brisbane Lions.

Passengers will not be required to tag on or off, and the free travel applies to all users, including those who typically use cash tickets. To support the influx of fans, extra train services will be added, with trains running every 15 minutes on all lines until 11:00 PM.

Public viewing events are scheduled across Perth and Fremantle, including locations such as Northbridge Piazza, Yagan Square, and the BHP Amphitheatre outside Optus Stadium. Officials are encouraging residents to use public transport to avoid road closures and congestion, particularly in Fremantle, where up to 40,000 people are estimated to attend various event sites.
