Traffic authorities in Dominican Republic and Peru address vehicle seizures

In the Dominican Republic, several Haitian nationals are seeking the return of vehicles impounded by the Dirección General de Seguridad de Tránsito y Transporte Terrestre (Digesett). The seizures occurred on John F. Kennedy Avenue following traffic chaos caused by motorists using the roadway as parking during a football match between the Dominican Republic and Haiti. To recover the vehicles, owners must pay a total of RD$5,000, which includes a RD$1,000 fine and RD$4,000 in towing and processing fees.

In Peru, the Autoridad de Transporte Urbano para Lima y Callao (ATU) has addressed the situation regarding the ‘Army Bus,’ a public transport vehicle decorated with BTS themes. While the driver claimed the vehicle faced approximately 15,000 soles in fines, the ATU clarified that no fines have been imposed yet, but rather a preventive communication was sent. The authority warned that using the vehicle to promote specific routes for BTS fans would constitute an unauthorized modification of service, which is subject to sanctions. Additionally, the ATU noted that the use of ‘out of service’ signs for private trips and the presence of a television in the cabin are violations of current regulations.
