Transport authorities in South Africa and Kenya issue vehicle documentation notices

Transport authorities in South Africa and Kenya have issued notices regarding vehicle documentation and registration.

In South Africa, the Department of Transport has warned that certain dormant Traffic Register Numbers (TRNs) may be cancelled. Following a verification exercise with the Department of Home Affairs, specific TRNs issued between January 1, 2000, and June 30, 2023, have been identified as dormant. Affected individuals must submit physical representations at a Provincial Department of Transport site within 30 days to confirm their status and prevent cancellation. Required documentation includes a valid ID or passport, proof of residence, and photographs.

In Kenya, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has provided a four-month deadline for motorists to collect uncollected physical logbooks. The authority stated that physical logbooks held at its offices will not be stored for more than six months. This notice follows the NTSA’s transition to an electronic logbook system, which began on June 10, 2026. While new applications are processed electronically, those submitted before the transition date will still receive physical copies, which must be collected to avoid disposal.
