Catalonia rail services disrupted by heavy rainfall and maintenance

Heavy rainfall and torrential rain alerts in Catalonia have caused significant disruptions to the regional and high-speed rail networks. Renfe implemented a unilateral suspension of high-speed (AVE, Avant, Euromed) and medium-distance services between 09:00 and 11:00 on Tuesday as a precautionary measure to ensure passenger safety. Affected services include connections between Barcelona, Madrid, Figueres-Vilafant, and Valencia.

In the commuter rail network, Rodalies lines R2 (north and south), R3, R4, and R8 are operating under temporary speed restrictions. The R7 line has seen service interruptions between Cerdanyola Universitat and Montcada Bifurcació, with Renfe establishing an alternative road service for affected passengers. Additionally, the R6 line is interrupted between Masquefa and Piera.

Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat de Catalunya (FGC) has also been impacted, reducing service on lines S1 and S2 to 50% capacity and suspending the L7 line due to the weather. Renfe has notified passengers that they may change or cancel affected tickets at no additional cost.

Separately, maintenance works by Adif at Calella station are expected to continue until mid-November, causing approximately 25 daily train services on the R1 line to terminate or originate in Mataró instead of Calella.
