Transport disruptions reported in Riobamba and Santa Cruz

In Riobamba, Ecuador, the local municipality has announced a reorganization of the Terminal Terrestre to prepare for a full reconstruction project. Mayor John Vinueza stated that pedestrian entrances and vehicle circulation will be modified to mitigate heavy congestion on La Prensa Avenue. The plan includes changing street directions and moving passenger entry and exit points to the rear of the building to resolve logistical bottlenecks caused by previous administrative decisions.

In a separate transport crisis, the Departmental Federation of Omnibus Transporters of Santa Cruz has paralyzed interprovincial, interdepartmental, and international bus services. The strike follows the elimination of diesel subsidies under Supreme Decree 5716, which raised the price per liter from Bs 9.80 to Bs 17.95. Transporters are demanding a new, agreed-upon fare table. While presidential spokespeople have called for dialogue, local authorities are exploring plans to transition diesel units to Natural Gas Vehicle (GNV) fuel.
