Transport for Wales and Sheffield Supertram schedule summer upgrades to metro and tram lines

Transport for Wales will carry out major upgrades to the South Wales Metro from 25 July to 15 August. Work includes track relaying at Pontypridd, drainage improvements on the Treherbert line and level‑boarding at Pentrebach, with a two‑week closure on the Treherbert line and a one‑week closure on the Aberdare and Merthyr lines. Replacement bus services will operate throughout the closures. Dan Tipper, TfW Chief Infrastructure Officer, said the works are an important step in delivering a more reliable, accessible railway.

The South Yorkshire Mayoral Combined Authority is conducting £3.5 million of summer improvements to Sheffield’s Supertram as part of a £110 million network investment. Works run until 31 August and involve replacing track, points, signalling equipment and pedestrian crossings near Herdings Park and the key Delta junction in the city centre. All tram routes will run with adjusted timetables and replacement buses will be provided where needed. Melanie Corcoran, Executive Director of Transport, said the investment will create a more reliable network for future use.
