Transport regulations change for light vehicles and tachograph requirements

New regulations are impacting the transport sector regarding vehicle weight limits and tolling systems. As of September 21, 2026, vehicles with a gross vehicle weight (GVW) of up to 3.5 tons towing a trailer are no longer subject to the e-TOLL electronic toll collection system in Poland. The obligation to pay tolls is now determined solely by the mass of the towing vehicle itself.

Drivers with funds remaining in their e-TOLL accounts for light vehicles with trailers must apply for a refund by March 21, 2027, to avoid losing the money. Additionally, the new rules abolish the 500 PLN fine for failing to pay e-TOLL fees for light vehicle combinations, and ongoing proceedings regarding these specific cases will be automatically dismissed.

Separately, international road transport for vehicles with a GVW between 2.5 and 3.5 tons has been subject to updated EU regulations effective July 1, 2026. These rules mandate the use of second-generation intelligent tachographs and impose stricter requirements regarding driving time, breaks, and rest periods. Carriers must now manage driver planning and data collection from driver cards and tachograph memory in accordance with these updated standards.
