Bolivian transport sectors protest inspection fee hikes and fuel shortages

Transport organizations in Bolivia are mobilizing against proposed increases to the Vehicle Technical Inspection (ITV) fee and ongoing fuel shortages. In Tarija, leaders from the 15 de Abril Federation and independent transport sectors have expressed unanimous rejection of a proposal to raise inspection costs from 20 to 70 bolivianos, calling the measure disproportionate and unilateral.

Beyond inspection fees, transport leaders are raising alarms regarding the scarcity and quality of diesel and gasoline. The Confederation of Drivers of Bolivia has called for a national meeting in Cochabamba involving the Executive Branch and YPFB to address diesel and GNV supply, road conditions, and the inspection fee hike. Drivers are demanding that YPFB maintain fuel subsidies for public transport and are seeking solutions to mitigate the impact of rising operational costs.
