TRANSTU warns waste dumping is hindering TGM line renovations

The Société des Transports de Tunis (TRANSTU) has issued an alert regarding the accumulation of household waste and illegal dumping along the TGM (Tunis-Goulette-Marsa) railway line. This issue is reportedly hindering renovation efforts and technical maintenance at several stations, including Tunis-Marine, Hannibal, Carthage, and Amilcar.

Despite mobilizing specialized teams for continuous day and night cleaning and weeding operations, the company reports that local residents and nearby merchants continue to dump refuse on the tracks and in stations. Recent incidents at the Kram station required emergency nighttime interventions to clear the tracks.

In response, TRANSTU is calling for increased civic responsibility and is seeking the support of local authorities and civil society to sensitize the public. The company also stated it will coordinate with security forces to pursue legal action against individuals responsible for damaging equipment or endangering train circulation through illegal waste disposal.
