A three-kilometer section of the Transylvania Motorway, specifically on the Chiribiș–Biharia lot in Bihor County, will be designed to function as an emergency landing strip for aircraft. This specialized infrastructure will be located between kilometers 50+700 and 53+700 on a straight section of the highway.

Under normal conditions, the area will remain open to standard vehicular traffic. The transformation into an airstrip is intended only for exceptional circumstances, such as the temporary unavailability of an airport or airbase. A special area will also be prepared to park aircraft if the surrounding infrastructure requires it.

A supplementary contract worth nearly 85 million lei was signed in April 2026 to implement these features. The total project for the 28.5-kilometer Chiribiș–Biharia lot is valued at approximately 785 million lei and is funded by European funds through the 2021–2027 Transport Program. The works are being executed by the Precon Transilvania–Citadina 98 association, with a completion deadline of April 5, 2027.
