Trapani administration rejects political pressure amid councilor removal vote

The administration of Trapani, led by Mayor Giacomo Tranchida, has issued a strong statement rejecting what it describes as political blackmail and conditioning. The administration claims to be a victim of a situation involving a small group of opposition councilors and private-political interests attempting to undermine the municipal government.

A central conflict involves the potential removal of five city councilors—Andrea Genco, Marzia Patti, Vincenzo Guaiana, Angela Grignano, and Giovanni Parisi—due to absences during council sessions in October 2025. A decisive vote is scheduled for September 16.

The majority coalition is demanding that the vote on these removals be conducted publicly via roll call rather than by secret ballot. They argue that councilors must take public responsibility for decisions that strip elected officials of their mandates, expressing concern that a secret vote could allow for anonymous political maneuvering.
