Trapani and Frosinone BRT projects face protests and parking disputes

In Trapani, the historic centre committee has joined teachers in protesting the city's Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) scheme. Residents, shopkeepers and workers warn that the new dedicated lane between the sports hall and the Madonnina area, and works along Via Ammiraglio Staiti and Viale Regina Elena, are worsening traffic congestion, endangering emergency access and limiting parking for locals. The committee stresses it does not oppose the BRT’s goal of sustainable mobility but asks the municipality for a clearer transition plan and an updated public register of resident parking slots.

Meanwhile, in Frosinone, the municipal government has responded to similar concerns by assuring that additional parking spaces will be created alongside the BRT works and that traffic flow will be regularly monitored. Officials say the new infrastructure is essential for improving urban mobility and that measures are being taken to minimise disruption for drivers.

Both cities illustrate the tension between Italian local authorities’ push for rapid transit solutions and community worries about traffic, safety and parking availability.
