Trapani authorities revoke lease for Funtanazza building in Alcamo
The Libero Consorzio Comunale di Trapani has revoked the negotiated procedure to lease the former ‘Funtanazza’ building, located at the entrance of the Bosco d’Alcamo oriented nature reserve. The decision, announced by President Salvatore Quinci, follows a reassessment of public interest and aims to redefine the structure's purpose to prioritize collective use and environmental valorization.
The move follows significant local opposition. The Rete Funtanazza Bene Comune, supported by a petition signed by approximately one thousand people, had campaigned against the previous plan to convert the site into a bar-restaurant. Instead, the network is proposing the creation of a ‘Centro Popolare di Protezione ed Educazione Ambientale’ (Popular Center for Environmental Protection and Education) to serve as a space for ecological education, research, and cultural activities.
President Quinci stated that the revocation aligns with his administration's programmatic lines and allows for a new phase of recovery. Future management plans will involve collaboration between the Municipality of Alcamo, the provincial council, and local environmental associations to integrate the building into the broader protection of the Bosco d’Alcamo area.
