The Trapani City Council has approved the 2026/2028 budget and the Single Programming Document (DUP). The approval was marked by an unprecedented unanimous vote from both the majority and the opposition.
Opposition councilors clarified that their vote was not an endorsement of Mayor Giacomo Tranchida’s administration, but a strategic decision to protect the city. They explained that rejecting the budget would have triggered the legal dissolution of the City Council, leaving the Mayor and the Executive Committee to govern without opposition oversight.
Opposition members stated they sought to influence the financial instrument through amendments regarding issues such as road maintenance, water services, public security, and the management of Villa Rosina. They emphasized their role is to control and correct administration rather than simply opposing it.
