Trapani declares mourning for emergency responder Francesco Bulgarella

The city of Trapani has declared a period of official mourning following the death of Francesco Bulgarella, an emergency medical service (118) driver. Bulgarella died on August 13 during a rescue operation at a purification plant in the Contrada del Secco area of San Vito Lo Capo.

Bulgarella was responding to a call to assist Davide Anselmo, a 45-year-old worker who had fallen ill inside the facility. While attempting to assist Anselmo, Bulgarella reportedly suffered a sudden medical emergency himself. Investigations are ongoing to determine the exact cause of death, with a heart attack being one hypothesis under consideration by medical examiners.

Mayor Giacomo Tranchida ordered flags to be flown at half-mast on municipal buildings and suspended public musical performances to honor the fallen responder. Following Bulgarella’s funeral in Trapani, services for Davide Anselmo are scheduled to take place in San Vito Lo Capo.
