Trapani implements new disability reform through personalized life projects
Trapani is implementing the national reform for disability rights through a specialized training program focused on the new “Progetto di Vita” (Life Project). The two-day initiative, held at the Hotel Trapani Crystal, was promoted by the Department for Disability Policies under the Presidency of the Council of Ministers.
The program aims to operationalize Legislative Decree No. 62 of May 3, 2024, shifting the approach from merely providing available services to a person-centered model based on human rights. This new framework emphasizes individual desires, expectations, and aspirations, prioritizing self-determination and full social participation.
Training sessions involve professionals from healthcare, social services, and education to build a coordinated support network. Participants engage in practical simulations to construct personalized life projects for adults with disabilities. Local organizations, including Anffas Trapani, are participating to help families navigate this transition from a service-oriented system to one where services adapt to the individual.
